India’s Great Eastern Shipping Company (GESCO) has announced the acquisition of a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier of approximately 81,922 DWT, as part of its ongoing fleet expansion strategy. The vessel, built in 2016, is expected to join the company’s fleet by the third quarter of the 2026 financial year.
The company confirmed that the acquisition will be financed entirely through internal accruals. Great Eastern currently operates a fleet of 38 vessels, totaling 3.04 million DWT, comprising 26 tankers (including five crude carriers, 17 product tankers, and four LPG carriers) and 12 dry bulk carriers. The company reports that its current capacity utilization is close to 100%, reflecting strong operational efficiency.
This latest addition follows the company’s earlier agreements to acquire two secondhand vessels—a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier contracted in July 2025 and a Suezmax crude carrier contracted in August 2025. Both vessels are also expected to join the fleet by the third quarter of FY 2026.
With the delivery of these three new ships, Great Eastern Shipping’s fleet will expand to 41 vessels, increasing its total carrying capacity to 3.37 million DWT.
The company’s move comes amid growing demand in the shipping sector, with Great Eastern seeking to strengthen its market position in both dry bulk and tanker segments.
