V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has taken a significant stride towards sustainable port operations with the adoption of hydrogen-powered buses and trucks, backed by a dedicated 1 MW Green Hydrogen Mobility Infrastructure.
The initiative represents a major milestone in the Port’s decarbonisation roadmap, aimed at reducing emissions from intra-port transportation and cargo movement. By integrating hydrogen-powered vehicles into its mobility ecosystem, VOCPA is positioning itself at the forefront of clean energy adoption in India’s maritime sector.
The green hydrogen infrastructure will enable the seamless operation of zero-emission buses and trucks within the port premises, cutting dependence on conventional fossil fuels and lowering the overall carbon footprint of port activities.
Officials said the move aligns with national clean energy goals and reflects the Port Authority’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and future-ready infrastructure. The initiative is also expected to serve as a model for other ports looking to transition towards greener and more efficient mobility solutions.
With this step, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority continues to reinforce its vision of building a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable maritime ecosystem.
