The proposed expansion of cargo handling capacity at JSW Dharamtar Port has been recommended for environmental clearance (EC), marking a key step toward boosting throughput at the facility.

The project aims to enhance the port’s cargo handling capabilities to meet rising demand from industrial and bulk cargo segments. The expansion is expected to support increased movement of commodities such as coal, iron ore, and other raw materials critical to manufacturing and energy sectors.

Officials said the recommendation follows an environmental appraisal process, with the project incorporating measures to mitigate ecological impact while improving operational efficiency. Final approval will depend on compliance with stipulated environmental conditions.

Located in Maharashtra, Dharamtar Port plays a significant role in regional logistics, serving key industrial clusters. The capacity addition is likely to reduce congestion, improve turnaround times, and strengthen supply chain efficiency.

Once cleared, the expansion will further enhance the port’s role in supporting India’s growing trade volumes and industrial activity, aligning with broader efforts to modernise maritime infrastructure.
