V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has reported a steady rise in cargo performance, registering a 13.28% increase in salt cargo handling during the period from April 2025 to April 2026.

Salt, a key industrial commodity with wide-ranging applications across chemical manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and allied sectors, continues to be an important component of the port’s cargo mix. The growth in handling volumes highlights the increasing demand for the commodity and the port’s strengthening role in supporting industrial supply chains.

The port authority attributed the positive performance to improved operational efficiency, robust trade connectivity, and its continued focus on ensuring seamless cargo movement. The growth further reinforces Tuticorin Port’s position as a major maritime gateway for bulk and industrial cargo on India’s eastern coast.
