Piyush Goyal has urged Indian industry to closely track imports and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, reiterating the government’s push to promote swadeshi production and reduce dependence on overseas supplies.

Addressing industry stakeholders, the Commerce and Industry Minister emphasised the importance of identifying products with high import dependence and developing competitive manufacturing capacity within India. He said greater domestic production would help improve economic resilience, generate employment, and support long-term industrial growth.

Goyal also encouraged businesses to align with the government’s broader “Make in India” and self-reliance initiatives by investing in technology, innovation, and value-added manufacturing. Industry observers noted that the renewed focus on local production comes amid global supply chain uncertainties and rising efforts by countries to strengthen domestic industrial ecosystems.
