The Port of Savannah handled 503,739 TEUs in July 2026, marking a 5.7% year-on-year increase and giving the Georgia port a strong start to fiscal year 2027. The latest performance represented an increase of 27,051 TEUs compared with July 2025.
The growth was supported by increases in both import and export volumes. Exports reached nearly 115,000 TEUs, up 7.7% year on year, while imports rose 5% to approximately 251,900 TEUs.
Truck activity remains strong
Truck traffic remained heavy at Savannah during July, with the port recording nearly 15,000 truck transactions per day across import and export movements.
Average truck turn times were about 31 minutes for single-container moves and 51 minutes for dual moves. Nearly 80% of truck transactions at Garden City Terminal involved dual moves, highlighting the importance of efficient landside operations to the port’s overall cargo performance.
Road connectivity also received a boost during the month with the opening of the Brampton Road Connector on July 15. The $126 million four-lane highway links Garden City Terminal’s Gate 3 directly with the Interstate 16 corridor, improving access for port-related truck traffic.
Inland rail volumes increase
Savannah’s rail operations also recorded growth. The Mason Mega Rail Terminal handled 44,981 rail lifts in July, an increase of 2% compared with the same month last year.
Meanwhile, the Appalachian Regional Port in Crandall, Georgia, achieved a record monthly volume of 4,800 containers, up 41% year on year. The inland facility also ended FY2026 with 49,319 containers, nearly 20% higher than the previous fiscal year.
The strong July performance indicates continued demand for Savannah’s container services as the port enters FY2027. Georgia Ports Authority CEO Griff Lynch said August volumes currently on the water also appear strong, supporting expectations for continued cargo activity in the coming weeks.
The combination of higher container volumes, growing rail activity and continued investment in road and inland infrastructure is strengthening Savannah’s position as a major US East Coast logistics gateway.
