India and the United States continue to remain in regular contact as both sides work toward advancing discussions on a bilateral trade agreement, according to the Commerce Secretary.

The ongoing engagement comes as New Delhi and Washington seek to address outstanding issues and create a framework that can support stronger trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Negotiations are expected to cover a range of areas, including market access, tariffs, goods and services trade, and other issues affecting businesses and exporters. Both countries have been working to improve market access while protecting key domestic economic interests.

For Indian exporters, progress on the agreement could provide greater certainty and improve access to the large US market. Sectors such as engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, textiles, electronics, chemicals and other manufactured products could benefit from reduced trade barriers and clearer market conditions.

The US is one of India’s major trading partners, making the outcome of the negotiations important for India’s export growth and supply-chain strategy. A comprehensive agreement could also encourage greater investment and strengthen integration between Indian and US businesses.

However, differences remain on several negotiating issues, and the pace of progress will depend on the ability of both sides to reach mutually acceptable terms.

The Commerce Secretary’s comments indicate that discussions remain active, with India continuing its engagement with US officials. Further developments are expected as negotiations progress and both governments work toward resolving the remaining issues.
