Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) organised an industrial visit to ICD Virochannagar, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ, on August 25, 2026, providing students with first-hand exposure to inland container depot operations and logistics processes.
The visit enabled students to gain practical insights into ICD management, cargo handling, warehousing and equipment operations, including the use of reach stackers. They were also introduced to customs-bonded and domestic warehouse infrastructure, helping them understand how logistics and supply chain concepts studied in the classroom are applied in real-world operations.
The industrial visit was conducted in two batches. The morning batch was accompanied by Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Kaushik, Dean, Academic Affairs; Dr. Dharmesh Raval, Director, SMM; and Teaching and Research Associates Nishant Manjanwal and Khushi Pandey.
The afternoon batch was accompanied by Dr. Chandra Kant U., Dr. Mayuri Neve, Assistant Professor, and Teaching and Research Associates Simran Pathak and V. Harish Kumar.
Gujarat Maritime University expressed its appreciation to Chinmay Acharya, Terminal Head, ICD Virochannagar; Darshan Sharma, CEO Office; and the entire ICD Virochannagar team for their hospitality, guidance and arrangements during the visit.
The university said such industry interactions play an important role in strengthening experiential learning and enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of the maritime, logistics and supply chain ecosystem. The exposure is also expected to contribute towards preparing students for industry-oriented careers in logistics and allied sectors.
