Air cargo carriers are increasingly adopting dynamic pricing models to maximise revenue from available capacity, creating new challenges for freight forwarders as traditional rate structures continue to evolve. The shift reflects airlines’ efforts to optimise yields by adjusting prices based on demand, capacity availability and market conditions.

Under dynamic pricing strategies, air freight rates can change more frequently in response to booking patterns, seasonal demand, fuel costs and capacity utilisation. This approach allows airlines to capture higher returns during periods of strong demand while improving network profitability.

Forwarders, however, are facing greater uncertainty as fixed-rate agreements and long-term pricing arrangements become more difficult to maintain. Industry players are adapting by improving shipment visibility, using digital pricing tools and developing more flexible procurement strategies.

The move toward real-time pricing is gaining momentum as airlines seek better control over cargo revenues following years of market volatility. E-commerce growth, capacity fluctuations and changing global trade patterns have encouraged carriers to adopt more advanced revenue management systems.

Logistics experts expect dynamic pricing to become a larger part of the air cargo market, requiring forwarders to enhance data-driven decision-making and strengthen partnerships with carriers to secure competitive capacity and rates.
