BLR Airport handled 532,000 tonnes of cargo in FY26, recording a 6% year-on-year increase and reinforcing its position as one of India’s leading air freight gateways. The growth reflects steady demand across domestic and international cargo segments, supported by expanding trade flows, e-commerce activity and high-value exports.

The Bengaluru airport has emerged as a key logistics hub due to the region’s strong presence in technology, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, electronics and engineering industries. These sectors generate significant demand for time-sensitive and specialized cargo movement, helping drive throughput growth.

Airport officials said the increase in cargo volumes was supported by improved terminal efficiency, stronger airline connectivity and continued investment in handling infrastructure. Dedicated facilities for perishables, express shipments and temperature-sensitive goods have also strengthened the airport’s competitiveness.

Industry analysts noted that Bengaluru’s role in global supply chains continues to expand as companies diversify sourcing and seek reliable logistics gateways. The city’s growing manufacturing base and startup ecosystem have further boosted demand for imports of components and exports of finished products.

International cargo contributed significantly to overall volumes, with shipments moving across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. Domestic freight also remained resilient, driven by e-commerce, retail replenishment and industrial distribution networks.

The 6% rise in FY26 cargo handling underscores the increasing importance of BLR Airport in India’s aviation logistics landscape. Experts believe continued infrastructure expansion and wider freighter connectivity could further strengthen Bengaluru’s position as a preferred cargo hub in the coming years.
