Chittagong Port, Bangladesh’s largest and busiest seaport, recorded a 4.07% year-on-year growth in container handling in 2025, highlighting steady trade momentum despite operational challenges.

According to data from the Chittagong Port Authority, the port handled about 3.41 million TEUs during the year, up from around 3.28 million TEUs in 2024. The increase reflects stronger import-export activity and sustained demand from key sectors, including garments, consumer goods, and industrial raw materials.

In addition to container growth, the port also reported higher overall cargo throughput and an increase in vessel calls, underscoring its critical role in Bangladesh’s maritime trade. Chittagong Port handles the vast majority of the country’s containerised cargo and remains central to its export-driven economy.

Port officials said continued infrastructure upgrades, efficiency improvements, and digitalisation initiatives will be key to supporting future growth and easing congestion as volumes rise further.
