The Port of Damietta in Egypt is preparing to receive its first service calls under the Gemini Cooperation as the Damietta Alliance Terminal nears commissioning, industry sources report.
Gemini — a strategic ocean carrier alliance between major shipping lines Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd — plans to introduce calls at the new terminal on its SE3/AE15 and JD3/ Jeddah3 services once operations begin.
Under the SE3/AE15 rotation, vessels will link Port Said, Izmit, Istanbul and Damietta before continuing to Far East and Southeast Asian ports, while the JD3/Jeddah3 loop will connect Damietta with Port Said, Aqaba and Jeddah.
The new Damietta Alliance Terminal, being developed by a consortium including Eurogate, Contship and Hapag-Lloyd, is positioned to become a key hub in the Eastern Mediterranean with modern deep-water berths and capacity to handle the latest generation of container ships.
Initial calls are expected to begin on an operational basis ahead of full customer booking integration once the terminal is fully integrated into the Gemini network.
This move underscores Damietta’s growing role in international trade corridors and enhances connectivity for carriers expanding services across the Mediterranean and Red Sea regions.
