The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) and three regional port districts — Port of Benton, Port of Pasco, and Port of Walla Walla — have signed an interlocal agreement to collaborate on the development of a new Inland Logistics Hub in the Tri-Cities region of southeastern Washington.
Under the pact, the port partners will work together to strengthen cargo movement, expand international trade links, and enhance supply chain infrastructure by leveraging the strategic location of the Tri-Cities and its connections to major rail and highway networks. The initiative aims to integrate inland logistics with coastal gateway operations, creating a seamless north-south and east-west freight corridor.
Planned features of the hub include intermodal transfer capabilities, distribution and warehousing facilities, and expanded rail access to support both domestic and international freight flows. The agreement also sets the stage for coordinated planning, joint marketing efforts, and collaborative pursuit of funding to attract investment and stimulate economic development across Washington state.
Officials say the hub could boost export access for agricultural and industrial products from eastern Washington, reduce congestion in major metropolitan freight gateways, and generate jobs across urban and rural communities in the region.
