In a significant step towards enhancing India’s maritime security architecture, the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has signed a Master Service Agreement (MSA) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for the integration of Ship Security Alert Systems (SSAS) with the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR).
The agreement, signed on June 15, 2026, aims to strengthen real-time maritime security alerting, improve information sharing, and enable faster coordinated responses to security incidents across the Indian Ocean Region.
The integration of SSAS with IFC-IOR is expected to enhance maritime domain awareness by facilitating seamless transmission of critical security alerts and improving situational awareness for maritime authorities and stakeholders. The initiative will support quicker dissemination of security-related information and foster greater collaboration among agencies responsible for safeguarding maritime trade routes and shipping operations.
Officials said the project represents a major advancement in leveraging digital technologies to bolster maritime governance and resilience, particularly at a time when maritime security remains a key priority for India and the wider Indian Ocean region.
The collaboration underscores DG Shipping’s commitment to adopting technology-driven solutions that strengthen the country’s maritime security framework and support India’s growing ambitions as a leading maritime nation. The enhanced security ecosystem is expected to contribute to safer navigation, improved response capabilities, and greater protection of maritime assets and shipping interests in the region.
The move aligns with India’s broader efforts to reinforce maritime security infrastructure and strengthen regional cooperation in ensuring a secure and resilient maritime environment.
