Shri Nilabhra Dasgupta, IRS, Deputy Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), inaugurated a Two-Day Training Program on Methanol Bunkering under the Deendayal Kaushal Vikas Program, in association with the Gandhidham Collegiate Board. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) and senior officials of DPA.
The training initiative has been designed to equip port professionals, seafarers, and related workforce with essential knowledge and technical expertise in handling methanol bunkering operations—a critical step in the transition toward cleaner, sustainable fuels in the maritime sector.
In his address, Shri Dasgupta emphasized the importance of preparing India’s ports and logistics ecosystem for future-ready, environment-friendly maritime operations, in line with the Government of India’s Green Maritime Vision 2030. He highlighted that methanol, as an emerging alternative marine fuel, offers significant benefits in reducing carbon emissions, thus contributing to India’s commitment towards decarbonization and sustainable shipping.
The program, supported by the Gandhidham Collegiate Board, features expert-led sessions on the technical, safety, and regulatory aspects of methanol bunkering, including global best practices, risk management, and compliance requirements. Practical insights and case studies will further enhance participants’ ability to handle methanol operations with efficiency and safety.
By organizing such specialized skill-development programs, DPA reinforces its role not only as a premier maritime gateway but also as a driver of capacity building and innovation in India’s port sector.
This initiative marks another step forward in aligning port training and workforce development with the evolving demands of the global maritime industry, ensuring that India remains at the forefront of adopting green and sustainable port operations.
