In a landmark move to bolster security and streamline cargo screening operations, Eastern Railway has installed large tunnel-size 180180D Cargo X-ray scanners at Sealdah and Bhagalpur stations. Developed by Vehant Technologies , this installation marks a major leap in the Indian Railways ‘ technological upgradation efforts to handle rising volumes of larger cargo shipments.
    Baggage/Parcel Scanners at Railway Stations

Traditionally, Indian railway stations have relied on single-view scanners for baggage and parcel screening. However, given the increasing movement of larger cargo packages and the need for higher throughput at key junctions, Eastern Railway opted for the more robust 180180D scanner model, making it the first Made in India Large Tunnel-Size Cargo Scanners.

This advancement is particularly significant at Sealdah and Bhagalpur, two stations witnessing high freight activity and requiring enhanced screening capabilities.

What sets the 180180D scanner apart is its larger tunnel size, allowing it to screen bulky packages without compromising speed or detection accuracy. The system not only improves operational efficiency but also strengthens the Railway Protection Force’s (RPF) ability to monitor, assess, and secure cargo moving through these stations.

Vehant Technologies, a homegrown leader in security screening solutions, has conducted thorough training of RPF personnel on operating, handling, and monitoring the new machines. The scanners have sophisticated automatic alert systems to provide quick detection and minimal manual intervention, raising security standards further.

As per operational protocols, all cargo must be scanned by the 180180D system before moving forward within the station premises, with streamlined checks and minimized delays. This strategic upgrade not only reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to enhanced security and modernization but also positions Sealdah and Bhagalpur as model stations for future deployments of large tunnel-size scanners across the country.

Commenting on the development, Kapil Bardeja, the CEO and Co-Founder of Vehant Technologie,s said, “As cargo volumes continue to rise across key railway junctions, there’s a growing need for faster and more accurate screening. Our 180180D scanners offer precision as its advanced, high-energy scanners are capable of detecting contraband and prohibited items with high accuracy.

It’s ideal for deployment in air cargo, railways, warehouses, customs facilities, and ports. By quickly identifying potential risks, it streamlines the inspection process and reduces clearance times for compliant traders and importers. We’re proud to partner with Eastern Railway on this pioneering deployment and remain committed to supporting smooth operations through ongoing training and support.”
