FedEx has launched a new dedicated, non-stop freighter service connecting its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China, with Sydney, Australia, strengthening air cargo connectivity between major Asian markets and Australia.
The new service operates five times a week using Boeing 777 freighter aircraft, adding dedicated capacity for time-sensitive and high-value shipments moving into the Australian market.
FedEx said the new routing can provide up to one day faster transit times for selected shipments from major Asian markets, with some consignments reaching Australia in as little as two business days. The service connects Australia more directly with Southern China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The Guangzhou-Sydney link is expected to benefit exporters and businesses handling products that require reliable and rapid transportation. These include high-value goods, electronics, advanced manufacturing products, new-energy products and cross-border e-commerce shipments.
FedEx said the new route will provide customers with greater cargo capacity, faster connections and improved supply-chain flexibility. The direct operation also reduces reliance on intermediate connections, helping shippers achieve more predictable transit times into Australia.
The new service forms part of FedEx’s wider expansion of its intra-Asia air cargo network. The company has also strengthened connectivity from Guangzhou through new or expanded freighter services to destinations including Penang in Malaysia and Bangkok in Thailand, while expanding links with South Korea.
For Australian importers and Asian exporters, the additional freighter capacity comes as trade flows across the Asia-Pacific region continue to expand. FedEx said stronger trade links and rising demand for time-sensitive logistics are driving the need for more direct and dependable cargo connections.
The Guangzhou-Sydney service also strengthens the role of Guangzhou as a major regional air-cargo hub, enabling FedEx to consolidate shipments from across Asia before moving them directly to Australia.
With five weekly Boeing 777 freighter operations, the new route is expected to improve connectivity, increase cargo capacity and support faster movement of goods between China, the wider Asia-Pacific region and Australia.
