Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL), India’s leading rail-led multimodal logistics company, has acquired around 25 acres of land near the Pithampur Industrial Area in Indore to develop a new Inland Container Depot (ICD), marking its first foray into Central India and Madhya Pradesh.

The proposed ICD has received in-principle approval from Indian Railways and will be developed with two rail sidings. Once operational, the facility is expected to handle nearly 120,000 TEUs annually. The total investment for the project is estimated at ₹150 crore.

The Indore ICD will offer integrated logistics services, including rail transportation for EXIM and domestic containers, container handling, bonded warehousing, and last-mile road distribution. The facility is designed to cater to a wide regional catchment covering Indore, Pithampur, Dewas, Dhar, Mhow, Ujjain, Sanwer and nearby industrial clusters.

The depot will handle a diversified cargo mix such as auto components, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, polymers, textiles and garments, agricultural produce, and other commodities, supporting the region’s rapidly growing manufacturing and industrial base.

Commenting on the development, Prem Kishan Dass Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, Gateway Distriparks Limited, said the Indore ICD will strengthen the company’s domestic container logistics and rail-based distribution network while continuing its strong focus on the EXIM market. He added that the facility will enable manufacturers and shippers to access cost-efficient containerised movement to ports as well as across key industrial and consumption corridors in India.

The ICD is also expected to gain a significant operational advantage from the upcoming Indore–Dahod rail line, which is likely to reduce rail lead distance to JNPT and accelerate the modal shift of container movement from road to rail, further enhancing supply chain efficiency in the region.
