Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh has urged businessmen and exporters from Jammu and Kashmir to utilize the port’s advanced facilities for import and export, highlighting its strategic role as the gateway for the Union Territory.
Speaking to a J&K media delegation, Mr. Wagh emphasized that efficient port connectivity is vital for transporting local products like apples, walnuts, handicrafts, and other horticultural and agro-based goods to domestic and international markets. He also invited J&K trade houses and entrepreneurs to participate in India Maritime Week 2025, scheduled for October 27-31 in Mumbai, which will host delegates from over 100 countries and provide a platform for global partnerships.
At the JNPA headquarters, Mr. Wagh highlighted the port’s position as India’s largest container-handling facility and its contribution to maritime trade, logistics efficiency, and national economic growth. He also discussed ongoing modernization projects, expansion plans, and innovative logistics solutions that have established JNPA as a benchmark in port operations.
The Chairman provided insights into the upcoming Vadhvan Port Project, projected to become India’s largest port and the world’s seventh-largest container hub, further enhancing trade connectivity for J&K and other regions.
The media delegation was briefed by Ambika Singh, Senior Manager Marketing & PRO, JNPA, and DGM Corporate Communications & Training, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd., on the port’s operations, digitalization efforts, green initiatives, and sustainability measures.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Media Tour, comprising 14 journalists from Kashmir and Jammu, commenced on October 5 under the leadership of Neha Jalali, Director, PIB J&K. The five-day tour, facilitated by PIB Mumbai, includes visits to Central Public Sector Enterprises and developmental institutions, providing J&K journalists first-hand exposure to national infrastructure and trade initiatives.
The initiative underscores JNPA’s role in integrating J&K’s high-value products into global markets while strengthening regional economic development through strategic port infrastructure.
