India’s logistics infrastructure is set for a major upgrade with the development of the Mappedu Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) near Chennai, a large-scale project being developed by Reliance Industries. The facility is expected to significantly strengthen Chennai’s position as a key node for industrial growth, warehousing, and trade-led development.
Spread across 184.27 acres with an investment of ₹1,424 crore, the Mappedu MMLP is designed as a fully integrated logistics ecosystem with seamless connectivity across road, rail, and sea. Its direct access to the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR), along with a 10.5-km dedicated rail siding, is expected to enable faster cargo evacuation and smoother multimodal movement.
Once operational, the logistics park will have a cargo handling capacity of 7.17 million metric tonnes (MMT), supporting a wide range of commodities and industrial supply chains. The project is aligned with India’s broader objective of reducing logistics costs and improving supply chain efficiency to enhance global competitiveness.
Scheduled to commence operations in 2026, the Mappedu MMLP is poised to play a critical role in decongesting existing logistics infrastructure around Chennai while supporting future-ready, sustainable logistics solutions. Industry stakeholders see the project as a significant step towards transforming India into a more efficient and resilient logistics powerhouse.
