Nepal has expressed its eagerness to use Bangladesh Chattogram, Mongla and Payra sea ports and put special emphasis on freight transportation through Banglabandha land port after using Mongla seaport.

Nepalese Ambassador in Dhaka Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed his country’s interest as he paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury at Secretariat office on Tuesday.

Noting that Nepal and Bangladesh have massive engagement, the envoy said a huge number of Nepalese students studying in Bangladesh.

Ghanshyam Bhandari said Nepal uses Banglabandha and Burimari land ports for carrying freights by using some areas of India.

Khalid Mahmud said they discussed how Nepal can connect with Bangladesh by-road through using 23km land of India.

The state minister said Bangladesh, Nepal and India will work together in using the route.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina discussed the matter during her India visit. If the route is introduced, it will help expand business and trade, Khalid added.

He said discussions are going on at prime minister-level between the two countries to expand trade and commerce by using the route.
