SITC International Holdings, a major intra-Asia container shipping operator, has moved forward with its fleet expansion strategy by extending its orderbook with additional 2,700-TEU container vessels, according to industry reports.

The development underscores the company’s focus on renewing and growing its fleet to meet rising demand for regional container services and to enhance its network efficiency across Asia’s busy short-sea trades.

SITC had already been active in placing vessel orders for both 1,800-TEU and 2,700-TEU class ships in recent periods, reflecting strong appetite among carriers for mid-sized tonnage that balances cargo flexibility with fuel efficiency.

The extended orderbook comes amid broader industry trends of elevated global containership orders, with the overall vessel pipeline continuing to grow sharply as carriers look to modernise fleets and comply with stricter emissions standards — even as demolition of older ships remains at historic lows.

Analysts say SITC’s newbuild strategy positions the company to better serve intra-Asian trade lanes and provides resilience against market volatility by securing capacity early in a period of high ordering activity across the container shipping sector.
