Russia’s imports of seafood from India, in particular some types of shrimp, decreased by a third in August compared to last year, RIA Novosti calculated according to the Indian statistical service.

Thus, according to the results of the last month of summer, Russia’s imports of Indian seafood, among which there were only crustaceans, decreased by 34% compared to last year and amounted to $ 10.8 million. There has also been a reduction in comparison with July 2024 – by almost a fifth.

Of the crustaceans, Moscow bought from New Delhi in August only some types of shrimp, in particular white-footed ones – for $ 10.7 million and some freshwater ones – for $ 130 thousand.

By the end of August, Russia ranked seventh among buyers of Indian crustaceans. The top 5 included the USA (180 million dollars), China (49 million), Japan (36 million), Belgium (16 million) and Canada (14 million).

In total, in the first eight months of this year, Russia purchased seafood from India for $ 82.3 million, reducing their purchases by 1.3 times compared to the same period last year. Most of all during this time, white-footed and freshwater shrimps were bought – for 79 million and 1.1 million dollars, respectively. Giant tiger shrimps (worth 410 thousand dollars), frozen squid (170 thousand), frozen octopus (140 thousand) and other seafood were also purchased in small volumes.
