    Port of Long Beach to implement hands-free chargers

    InductEV has cooperated with port terminal operator International Transportation Service, LLC (ITS) to install high-power inductive chargers at the Port of Long Beach.

    ITS recently received a $3.3 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to showcase breakthrough charging technology solutions for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles (MD/HD).

    The ITS project, named “Hands-free Charging for Battery Electric Cargo Handling Equipment,” is one of five projects granted $33 million by the CEC under this competitive request in 2024.

    ITS chose InductEV, located in Philadelphia, PA and Long Beach, CA, as a grant project partner to deliver a wireless inductive charging system to charge five of ITS’ battery-electric cargo handling equipment while it is parked.

    This is the company’s first installation at a West Coast port complex, after its deployment last year at APM Terminals in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.

    In December 2024, the Port of Long Beach released a draft study examining a 70 megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) proposed by Pier S Energy Storage LLC, located on 2.9 acres of land on the Long Beach Power Plant property at 2665 Pier S Lane.
