India’s goods and services tax collections surged by 12.6 per cent to an all-time high of ₹2.37 lakh crore during April, according to government data.

For the previous month, India’s indirect tax collections increased by 9.9 per cent YoY to ₹1.96 lakh crore crore during March.

The GST mop-up was ₹2.10 lakh crore in April 2024 – the second highest collection ever since the roll-out of the indirect tax regime on July 1, 2017.

In March 2025, the collection was ₹1.96 lakh crore.

GST revenue from domestic transactions rose 10.7 per cent to about ₹1.9 lakh crore, while revenue from imported goods was up 20.8 per cent to ₹46,913 crore.

Refunds issuance rose 48.3 per cent to ₹27,341 crore during April.

Earlier, goods and services tax collections rose 9.1 per cent to ₹183,646 crore during February on the back of double-digit rise in the mop up from domestic sources. GST collections for January reached ₹1.96 lakh crore, marking a 12.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

In December, GST collections stood at ₹1.77 lakh crore, reflecting a 7.3 per cent year-on-year rise. This was a slowdown from the 8.5 per cent growth recorded in November, attributed to reduced consumption following the festive season.

In the Budget, the government projected an 11 per cent increase in GST revenue for the year, estimating collections at ₹11.78 lakh crore, including Central GST and compensation cess.
