Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated India’s first bamboo-based bio-refinery in Golaghat district, underscoring the government’s push towards energy self-reliance and reduced dependence on foreign fuels.
Addressing a large public rally at the inauguration of the bio-ethanol plant, the Prime Minister said the facility represents a step forward in harnessing India’s renewable energy resources. “India will harness its deepwater energy potential and strengthen energy self-reliance. This bio-ethanol plant is a part of that vision,” Mr. Modi stated, highlighting India’s position among the world’s top five nations in solar energy.
In addition to the bio-refinery, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit at the facility. Earlier in the day, he also inaugurated the foundation stones of Darrang Medical College, Nursing College, and GNM School in Darrang district.
From the same venue, Mr. Modi virtually launched the construction of a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Guwahati’s Narengi and Darrang’s Kuruwa, as well as the Guwahati Ring Road project.
After concluding his engagements in Assam, the Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for Kolkata from Jorhat Airport this evening.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
