    A senior delegation from Hapag-Lloyd visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently to reinforce longstanding ties and explore new avenues for collaboration in port operations and capacity enhancement.

    The delegation comprised Mr. Christiaan Goeman Borgesius, Senior Director – RME Operations; Mr. Jubil Thankachan, Director of Marine Operations – RME Operations; and Mr. Lloyd De Villers, Director of Procurement. They were joined by representatives from Hapag-Lloyd’s local agency.

    On behalf of the SLPA, the meeting was attended by Chairman Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe (Rtd), Vice Chairman Eng. Herath M. P. Jayawardhana, Managing Director Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Director of Marketing & Business Development Mr. U. Kumara, and Acting Director of Operations Mr. Pradeep Perera.

    Discussions centred on ongoing developments across Sri Lankan ports, with a strong focus on operational enhancements, capacity expansion, and improving efficiency. The Hapag-Lloyd team commended the SLPA for its continued efforts to modernise port infrastructure and highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong, reliable partnership in the region.

    Both parties expressed optimism about future cooperation, identifying several potential areas for joint initiatives aimed at ensuring smooth, efficient, and future-ready port operations.
