Pacific International Lines (PIL) is preparing to place an order for eight new 13,000-TEU container ships capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking a major step in the carrier’s fleet expansion and decarbonisation strategy.

Industry sources indicate that the Singapore-based shipping line is in advanced discussions with shipyards, with the order expected to be finalised soon. The dual-fuel vessels are designed to operate on both conventional marine fuels and LNG, enabling significant reductions in emissions and aligning with tightening global environmental regulations.

The newbuilds will enhance PIL’s capacity on key east–west trades and strengthen its position among global carriers as it modernises its fleet with greener, more efficient tonnage.

The order follows PIL’s recent investments in environmentally friendly vessels and is seen as part of the company’s long-term plan to improve operational efficiency while advancing sustainability goals.
