In a significant step towards strengthening India’s digital commerce ecosystem, the Department of Posts has successfully booked and delivered its first online order through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), acting as a Logistics Service Provider.

The Ministry of Communications said the integration allows sellers using ONDC-enabled buyer applications to choose the Department of Posts for end-to-end logistics services, including parcel pickup, booking, transmission and final delivery. Leveraging its vast nationwide postal network, India Post will now support seamless and cost-effective logistics for e-commerce transactions on the ONDC platform.

Officials said the milestone underscores India Post’s expanding role in the digital economy and its transition into a technology-enabled logistics partner. The move is expected to particularly benefit small sellers, MSMEs and rural enterprises by providing them access to reliable last-mile delivery services across the country.

The successful delivery marks a key advancement in ONDC’s objective of creating an open, inclusive and interoperable digital commerce network, while further modernising the Department of Posts’ service offerings.
