The Kerala coast presents significant opportunities for strengthening Indo-Dutch collaboration in shipping and maritime trade, according to the Dutch ambassador to India. The envoy highlighted the state’s strategic location, modern ports, and extensive waterways network as ideal for deepening bilateral shipping ties.

During a roundtable with state officials and industry stakeholders, the ambassador noted that the Dutch expertise in port management, inland navigation, and sustainable maritime technologies could complement Kerala’s efforts to enhance cargo handling, logistics efficiency, and environmental standards in the maritime sector.

Officials said potential areas of collaboration include port development, inland waterways projects, shipbuilding, and green shipping initiatives, aligning with India’s national objectives to expand maritime trade and reduce carbon emissions.

Industry representatives welcomed the discussion, emphasizing that enhanced Indo-Dutch partnerships could attract investment, improve operational standards, and boost trade connectivity between Europe and India through Kerala’s ports.

The meeting underscores Kerala’s emerging role as a hub for international shipping collaboration and signals growing interest from European partners in India’s maritime infrastructure and logistics ecosystem.
