Global shipping giant Maersk has officially opened a new ground freight facility in Fontana, California, as part of its strategy to expand inland logistics capabilities across the United States.
The facility, designed to handle high volumes of containerized freight, will serve as a key node connecting ports, rail terminals, and regional distribution centers, improving efficiency for domestic and cross-border shipments. Maersk said the hub is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for cargo tracking, automation, and real-time data management, aimed at accelerating freight flows and reducing turnaround times.
“Expanding our inland footprint is critical to supporting growing customer demand and improving supply chain resilience,” said a Maersk spokesperson. “The Fontana facility enhances our ability to move cargo seamlessly from West Coast ports to U.S. inland markets.”
The facility will also support Maersk’s broader U.S. strategy, which focuses on integrated logistics solutions, including trucking, rail, and last-mile delivery services, enabling shippers to streamline operations and optimize costs.
Local officials welcomed the development, highlighting that the hub is expected to create jobs, enhance regional logistics infrastructure, and strengthen the Inland Empire’s position as a major freight corridor.
