The Royal Norwegian Consulate General Mumbai participated in the India Maritime Alternative Fuels Policy and Investment Dialogue, hosted by the Directorate General of Shipping, India in collaboration with the IMO GreenVoyage2050 and the Indian Register of Shipping. The dialogue brought together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and technical experts to deliberate on accelerating India’s transition towards sustainable marine fuels.
A key highlight of the event was a presentation by DNV on its draft study assessing the potential demand and pricing landscape for alternative marine fuels in India. Funded under the IMO GreenVoyage2050 programme, the study offers comprehensive, data-driven insights aimed at supporting long-term planning, infrastructure development, and market creation. These elements are considered critical for building a commercially viable and scalable alternative fuels ecosystem in the country.
The dialogue reinforced the strong and steadily expanding partnership between Norway and India in the fields of green shipping and maritime sustainability. Both nations have been actively collaborating on initiatives focused on decarbonization, clean energy adoption, and sustainable maritime innovation.
During the event, representatives of the Consulate also met with Ms. Astrid Dispert, Project Technical Manager of IMO GreenVoyage2050, to exchange perspectives on plans and opportunities for collaboration in India. The discussions underscored the importance of sustained policy support, enhanced technical cooperation, and proactive industry engagement in accelerating maritime decarbonization efforts.
The India Maritime Alternative Fuels Policy and Investment Dialogue marked another significant step towards fostering international cooperation and advancing practical, low-emission solutions for a resilient and future-ready maritime sector.
