Japanese shipping major NYK Line has marked a key milestone with its first pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) call at Patimban Port, signaling growing momentum for the Indonesian port as an emerging automotive export hub.

The inaugural call highlights Patimban’s expanding role in handling vehicle shipments, particularly as Indonesia strengthens its position in global automotive supply chains. The port, developed to ease congestion at Jakarta’s main gateways, is designed to support large-scale vehicle exports with dedicated terminals and modern handling facilities.

NYK Line said the deployment of a PCTC vessel to Patimban reflects increasing demand for efficient and specialized car carrier services in the region. The move is expected to improve logistics efficiency for automakers by offering direct connectivity and reducing reliance on other congested ports.

Industry observers note that Patimban Port is strategically positioned to attract more international shipping lines, particularly those involved in automotive logistics. Its infrastructure is tailored to handle high volumes of vehicles, making it a key node in Indonesia’s export strategy.

The first PCTC call is also seen as a step toward strengthening trade links between Indonesia and major global markets, including Japan, Southeast Asia, and beyond. As more carriers begin to include Patimban in their rotation, the port is likely to see increased throughput and operational scale.

With this development, NYK Line reinforces its commitment to expanding its global car carrier network while supporting the growth of new logistics hubs in Asia.
