South Korean container shipping company HMM has secured an ‘AA’ rating in the 2026 MSCI ESG Ratings assessment, marking the highest ESG rating among globally listed shipping companies and placing the carrier in MSCI’s prestigious “Leader” category.

The achievement highlights HMM’s strong performance in managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities across its operations. The company has shown significant progress over the past five years, advancing from a ‘BB’ rating in 2021 to ‘AA’ in 2026 through sustained ESG-focused initiatives and corporate reforms.

Despite a more stringent evaluation framework introduced this year, HMM was recognised for its comprehensive efforts across all ESG pillars, including environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance practices.

The latest recognition reinforces HMM’s growing reputation as a sustainability-focused global carrier, as the company continues to strengthen its long-term commitment toward greener shipping operations and responsible business practices.
