New Mangalore Port Authority marked its 50th anniversary with a record cargo handling performance in FY26, processing 50 million tonnes (MT) of cargo from 1,467 vessel calls, compared with 46.01 MT handled from 1,421 vessels in FY25.

Liquid bulk cargo continued to dominate port traffic, accounting for nearly 60 per cent of total cargo volumes despite a 4.12 per cent decline year-on-year. The port handled 30.26 MT of liquid bulk cargo in FY26, down from 31.55 MT in the previous fiscal, amid global trade disruptions.

Among key liquid bulk commodities, LPG imports registered an 8.02 per cent increase during the year, while crude oil imports declined by 6.46 per cent and edible oil imports fell by 9.71 per cent.

The port authority said container traffic is emerging as the next major growth segment as it looks to diversify cargo mix and strengthen future capacity expansion plans.
