    V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority organised the “Port Safety Workshop 2026” on the theme ‘Strengthening Safety Across Port Operations’, reaffirming its commitment towards safer, secure and resilient port operations.

    The workshop featured the release of safety booklets along with a series of technical and interactive sessions focusing on operational and dock safety, mental and physical wellbeing, industrial behavioural safety, women’s safety, electrical safety and accident prevention. Industry experts also conducted demonstrations on fire safety and emergency response preparedness.

    Addressing the gathering, Susanta Kumar Purohit highlighted the port’s continued focus on operational excellence, sustainable growth and strengthening safety systems across all areas of port operations. Rajesh Soundararajan outlined the strategic roadmap for enhancing operational preparedness, safety governance and resilience within the port ecosystem.

    During the workshop, Subrat Tripathy stressed the importance of integrated safety practices, industry collaboration and proactive risk management in strengthening operational excellence across ports.

    P. Raveendran noted that safety is a continuous process that must be followed without compromise to ensure a secure, efficient and incident-free working environment. Debi Prasad Dash emphasised the importance of adequate work briefings, adherence to safety requirements, use of personal protective equipment and compliance with standard operating procedures to foster a culture of vigilance and zero tolerance towards unsafe practices.

    As part of the Women’s Safety segment, a mime performance highlighted the importance of empathy, inclusion, dignity and collective responsibility in creating safer and more supportive workplaces for women.

    The workshop also included prize distribution for competitions and activities such as debate, quiz, rangoli and training sessions conducted as part of the event, encouraging greater safety awareness and stakeholder participation.

    The event concluded with renewed commitment towards strengthening safety culture, enhancing operational preparedness and promoting sustainable and resilient port operations, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by T. Ramesh.
