The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has reaffirmed its position as a leader in sustainable port operations, announcing that it is now a 100% solar-powered port with cumulative solar energy generation reaching 57.96 million kWh since the commissioning of its solar power infrastructure in 2016-17.
According to NMPA, the port generated 5.65 million kWh (56.5 lakh units) of solar energy during FY 2025-26, resulting in an estimated reduction of 4,800 tonnes of carbon emissions and electricity cost savings of approximately ₹3.5 crore.
The achievement highlights the port’s long-term commitment to renewable energy adoption and environmentally responsible operations. By meeting its energy requirements through solar power, NMPA has significantly reduced its dependence on conventional energy sources while improving operational efficiency and lowering costs.
Port officials said the initiative demonstrates how clean energy investments can deliver both environmental and economic benefits, setting a benchmark for ports and industrial establishments across India. The authority added that its continued focus on sustainability aligns with broader national efforts to promote green infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions.
NMPA’s solar power programme is part of its wider strategy to build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable port ecosystem while supporting India’s transition towards renewable energy-driven growth.
