Pakistan’s Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL) is considering a major expansion of its operations following a sharp increase in transit cargo volumes linked to changing regional trade patterns.

The terminal is planning additional investment of up to $100 million to enhance capacity, improve infrastructure, and support growing demand for cargo handling services. The expansion is aimed at strengthening the port’s ability to manage rising container traffic and improve operational efficiency.

KGTL has seen increased activity as businesses and shipping lines seek alternative logistics routes amid regional disruptions and shifting trade flows. The rise in cargo volumes has encouraged the terminal to accelerate plans for future development.

The planned investment is expected to focus on upgrading terminal facilities, improving handling capabilities, and enhancing supply chain connectivity.

The expansion highlights Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its maritime infrastructure and position its ports as key hubs for regional and international trade.
