Deendayal Port Authority has advanced the road connectivity plans for the Tuna-Tekra container terminal near Kandla, Gujarat, by launching a tender for the second stage of the terminal’s road link. The project is aimed at improving cargo access and strengthening the terminal’s hinterland connectivity.
The latest tender covers the construction of common road connectivity from the project’s take-off point to the terminal’s backup area. The work has been assigned a construction period of 240 days, with bids scheduled to be submitted by August 25, 2026.
Improving terminal connectivity
The road project is an important part of the wider infrastructure being developed around Tuna-Tekra. Better road access is expected to facilitate the movement of containers between the terminal and surrounding road networks, helping improve cargo evacuation and reducing potential bottlenecks.
The Tuna-Tekra container terminal is being developed under a 30-year BOT concession and is expected to strengthen Deendayal Port’s container-handling capabilities. Government project information currently places the scheduled project completion date at September 30, 2027.
Wider connectivity investment
The road-link development follows other connectivity initiatives around Tuna-Tekra. In March 2026, the Union government approved a ₹472 crore Road Over Bridge and associated road infrastructure project at Tuna-Tekra to strengthen cargo evacuation and port connectivity.
Deendayal Port has also previously undertaken road upgrades connecting the Tuna Jetty Road junction with the terminal’s take-off point, demonstrating the port’s broader effort to build supporting infrastructure around the new terminal.
Boost to cargo movement
The additional road infrastructure is expected to support smoother movement of containers between the terminal and the port’s hinterland. Improved connectivity could help reduce truck delays, strengthen supply-chain reliability and improve the overall efficiency of cargo evacuation.
With the latest tender, Deendayal Port is moving another step closer to establishing the supporting road infrastructure required for the Tuna-Tekra terminal. The development is expected to play an important role in strengthening Kandla’s position as a major container gateway on India’s western coast.
