CMA CGM has reduced its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for refrigerated containers moving from North Europe to the Middle East Gulf, providing some relief for shippers facing elevated costs on the trade lane.

The reduction applies to reefer cargo and reflects the carrier’s latest adjustment to its pricing structure as market conditions evolve. Refrigerated containers typically involve higher handling and equipment costs because of the additional power, monitoring and specialised terminal requirements.

The North Europe–Middle East Gulf trade serves important supply chains for food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and other temperature-sensitive products. A lower reefer surcharge could help exporters manage transportation costs and improve the competitiveness of temperature-controlled shipments.

CMA CGM regularly reviews surcharges and freight rates in response to changes in demand, operational expenses, equipment availability and market conditions. The latest adjustment suggests that cost pressures on the affected reefer trade have eased sufficiently to support a reduction in the PSS.

For shippers and freight forwarders, the lower surcharge could translate into reduced overall logistics costs on eligible shipments. Customers are expected to review the revised tariff and confirm the applicable charges based on origin, destination, equipment type and shipment date.

The move comes as carriers continue to adjust pricing across global container trades amid changing cargo demand and evolving supply-chain conditions. Reefer equipment remains particularly important for European exporters serving Gulf markets, where reliable temperature-controlled transportation is essential.

CMA CGM’s latest decision provides greater pricing flexibility for reefer customers and could support continued cargo flows between North European ports and the Middle East Gulf.
