The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has achieved a significant milestone in rail connectivity with the departure of its first long-haul Double-Stack (D/S) rake on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
The rake, which departed from JNPA, carried 360 TEUs of import cargo received through BMCTPL, operated by PSA India, and was bound for CGMV.
The commencement of long-haul Double-Stack operations is expected to enhance rail freight capacity by enabling higher cargo volumes to be transported in a single rake. The initiative will also improve operational efficiency and facilitate faster evacuation of import containers from the port.
The enhanced rail connectivity is expected to contribute to reduced import dwell time and shorter transit times to inland destinations, supporting more efficient movement of EXIM cargo across the logistics network.
The milestone further strengthens JNPA’s integration with the Dedicated Freight Corridor network, improving connectivity with key inland locations and enabling smoother and more predictable cargo movement.
JNPA said its continued investments in rail infrastructure, multimodal connectivity and cargo evacuation are aimed at developing a faster, smarter and more reliable logistics network for India’s EXIM trade.
The introduction of long-haul Double-Stack services marks another step in JNPA’s efforts to strengthen rail-based cargo evacuation and enhance the competitiveness of India’s gateway port infrastructure.
