Offshore support vessel (OSV) owners are investing in digitalisation, fast satellite communications and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance operations, improve safety and prevent issues causing downtime.

These technologies are having a significant impact on vessel operations, performance and condition monitoring, managing dynamic positioning (DP) and reducing emissions.

P&O Maritime Logistics uses these technologies on its fleet of OSVs, tugs and logistics ships. Its head of technology and logistics, Kris Vedat, will present the advantages and opportunities that come from using AI, connectivity and digitalisation at Riviera’s Offshore Support Journal Conference, Middle East 2024, which will be held in Dubai, 11-12 December.

In a dedicated session on navigating the maritime digital landscape, Mr Vedat will explain how AI is changing operations in the offshore industry, describe the available technology and how data standardisation can help the industry to optimise operations more effectively.

In this session, technical experts will review the technologies available, explain how they can be adopted by OSV owners and demonstrate the benefits to maritime operations.

Rolls-Royce Solutions manager of marine automation Bart Kowalinski will explain the value of data and digitalisation in shipping, including how it enables vessel owners to identify technical issues early. He will describe the importance of data quality and analytics for managing equipment health, diagnosing performance issues and enabling predictive and condition-based maintenance.

Ascenz Marorka chief executive Anouar Kiassi will present the benefits of end-to-end digital management for sustainable vessels. He will explain how owners can use real-time data analysis to monitor asset condition and performance, and how this will lower fuel consumption and emissions.

DP and Marine Assurance managing director Peter Solvang will consider how online services and data analytics can help owners to manage their vessel DP systems more effectively, including implementing mandatory annual DP trials.

At the end of the session, there will be a panel session covering applying digitalisation, data analysis, connectivity and AI technologies to optimise vessel operations and lower emissions.

Caterpillar Marine senior digital strategist Allison Marino will explain the importance of data analytics for monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Inmarsat Maritime marketing manager Audra Drablos will be joined by Marlink sales director Roger Harfouch and Maritime Expertise general manager Ranvijay Singh on the panel to provide insight into vessel connectivity and digitalisation, and the new technologies on the horizon.
