The facility aims to support transshipment operations and attract greater export-import traffic through Vizhinjam, positioning it as a key gateway on international shipping routes.
In addition, the approved bunkering facility will enable vessels calling at Vizhinjam to refuel locally, reducing dependency on foreign ports for marine fuel supplies. Industry observers say the move could help the port tap into the growing demand for competitive bunkering services along major East-West trade lanes.
