After a notable hiatus, bagged sugar export operations have resumed at New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), marking a significant development in the port’s cargo handling and export activity.

The vessel MV New Legacy arrived and berthed at the port at 16:50 hrs on April 9, 2026. The ship is currently being loaded with approximately 25,000 metric tonnes of Indian refined white sugar, destined for export markets.

This call is particularly important as it signals the revival of bagged sugar exports from the port after a considerable gap. The vessel had last called at NMPA on October 6, 2025, underscoring the renewed momentum in this segment of cargo movement.

Port officials highlighted that the resumption of such shipments reflects improving market conditions and reinforces NMPA’s capability to handle diverse cargo efficiently. The development is expected to contribute positively to the port’s overall throughput and strengthen its position in India’s agri-export logistics chain.

To commemorate the occasion, the Traffic Manager of NMPA, along with his team, formally welcomed the vessel. A memento was presented to the ship’s Master as a gesture of goodwill, symbolizing the port’s continued commitment to fostering strong trade relationships and delivering operational excellence.

The return of bagged sugar exports is seen as a promising indicator for exporters and stakeholders, paving the way for increased cargo volumes and enhanced utilization of port infrastructure in the coming months.
