Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) has partnered with Priya Blue Industries to launch a major ship recycling initiative in Bahrain, marking the Gulf nation’s entry into large-scale commercial ship recycling operations. The collaboration is aimed at developing environmentally compliant recycling facilities and strengthening Bahrain’s maritime industrial ecosystem.

Industry officials said the joint venture will combine ASRY’s regional maritime infrastructure and repair expertise with Priya Blue’s extensive experience in ship recycling and steel recovery operations. The project is expected to position Bahrain as an emerging ship recycling hub in the Gulf region while supporting circular economy and sustainability goals within the maritime sector.

The proposed facility is likely to focus on safe and environmentally responsible dismantling of vessels in line with international regulations and green recycling standards. Analysts noted that stricter global environmental norms and rising demand for sustainable ship disposal solutions are creating new opportunities for organised recycling facilities worldwide.

Priya Blue, one of India’s leading ship recycling companies, operates major recycling activities at Alang in Gujarat, one of the world’s largest shipbreaking centres. Industry experts said the partnership could help transfer technical know-how, environmental management practices and operational expertise to Bahrain’s developing recycling sector.

The venture also aligns with broader efforts by Gulf countries to diversify maritime services beyond ports, logistics and ship repair into areas such as recycling, offshore support and marine engineering. Maritime observers said Bahrain’s strategic location along key shipping routes could support long-term growth for the recycling business.

Shipping industry stakeholders expect the project to generate opportunities in steel recovery, marine equipment reuse, logistics and industrial employment while strengthening regional maritime sustainability initiatives.
