Bangladeshi and Indian importers and exporters on Sunday held a joint meeting at Sonamasjid Land Port in Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh’s second-largest land port, to explore ways to expand bilateral trade and resolve longstanding operational challenges.
The meeting, held at the conference room of Panama Sonamasjid Port Link Limited, was organised by the Sonamasjid Importers and Exporters Group. Traders from both sides stressed the need to enhance import-export activities through the Sonamasjid–Mahadipur Land Ports and urged the concerned authorities to resume the exchange of goods that has remained suspended for some time.
Indian business representatives noted that trade in spices and fruits was once substantial through these ports but has declined sharply in recent years. They called for effective initiatives to revive and expand trade in these commodities, highlighting their potential to strengthen cross-border commerce.
The meeting was chaired by Babul Hasnat Durul, Acting President of the Sonamasjid Importers and Exporters Group. Among those who spoke were General Secretary Arif Uddin Iti, Office Secretary SB Masum Billah, Convener of the Sonamasjid C&F Agents Association Mostafizur Rahman, Member Secretary Ruhul Amin, Vice-President of the Mahadipur Exporters Group Jagannath Ghosh, Joint General Secretary Hridoy Ghosh, General Secretary of the Mahadipur C&F Agent Welfare Association Tapas Kundu, and former General Secretary Bhupoti Mondal.
Leaders and members of various business organisations from both Bangladesh and India were also present at the meeting, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cross-border trade through coordinated efforts and policy support.
