Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has announced plans to invest in deeptech maritime platform Maritech, reinforcing its focus on maritime innovation and digital transformation within India’s shipping and shipbuilding ecosystem. The investment will be made under CSL’s startup engagement and innovation initiative aimed at supporting emerging maritime technology ventures.

Maritech is developing an integrated digital platform designed to streamline maritime operations, vessel management and stakeholder connectivity across the shipping value chain. The platform is expected to offer technology-driven solutions for operational efficiency, data integration and real-time maritime services.

CSL said the partnership aligns with its broader strategy to promote indigenous maritime technologies and strengthen India’s startup ecosystem in the marine sector. The shipbuilder has been actively supporting innovation-led projects through its USHUS startup programme , which focuses on nurturing early-stage ventures in shipbuilding, logistics, automation and maritime digitalisation.

Industry observers said the move reflects growing interest among traditional maritime companies in adopting digital and deeptech solutions to improve operational performance and competitiveness. Increasing use of data analytics, AI-enabled systems and integrated digital platforms is reshaping global shipping and port operations.

The investment is also expected to encourage collaboration between established maritime companies and technology startups, supporting the government’s broader push for innovation and self-reliance in the maritime sector.
