India’s Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Colombo Dockyard PLC to collaborate on shipbuilding and repair activities, strengthening regional maritime cooperation.
The agreement aims to leverage the technical expertise and infrastructure capabilities of both companies to undertake joint projects in vessel construction, maintenance, and retrofitting. The partnership is expected to enhance service offerings and expand their footprint in the South Asian maritime sector.
Officials from both sides highlighted that the collaboration will focus on optimising resources, sharing best practices, and exploring new business opportunities in domestic as well as international markets.
The MoU also aligns with broader efforts to boost shipbuilding and repair capabilities in the region, reducing dependency on distant yards and improving turnaround times for vessel maintenance.
Industry observers believe the partnership could open avenues for handling more complex projects, including specialised vessels and offshore assets, while strengthening technical collaboration between India and Sri Lanka.
With growing demand for ship repair and fleet modernisation, the tie-up positions both DCIL and Colombo Dockyard to capitalise on emerging opportunities in the global maritime industry.
