DP World, Pakistan Railways and the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) have commenced construction of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and a Multimodal Logistics Park at Pipri, a project aimed at strengthening cargo connectivity between Karachi’s ports and key inland markets across Pakistan.

The ground-breaking ceremony at Pipri was attended by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, along with senior officials from Pakistan Railways, NLC and port authorities.

The project will establish an integrated rail-and-logistics hub designed to improve the efficiency, reliability and speed of import and export cargo movement. By providing seamless rail connectivity between Karachi’s seaports and inland consumption and production centres, the corridor is expected to reduce congestion on roads, lower logistics costs and support Pakistan’s trade competitiveness.

Once operational, the Pipri facility will combine dedicated rail infrastructure with modern warehousing, container handling and value-added logistics services, creating a key node in the country’s evolving multimodal transport network. The initiative reflects growing public–private collaboration to modernise Pakistan’s logistics ecosystem and support long-term economic growth.
