Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla has achieved a new operational milestone by discharging a massive 81,024 tonnes of coal in just 24 hours from the vessel MV MARATHOS at Cargo Berth No. 7 — the highest single-day coal discharge ever recorded at the port.

The achievement comes close on the heels of another landmark moment. On November 17, DPA Kandla successfully handled 40 ships in a single day, surpassing its previous record of 38 vessels set in December 2023. These consecutive milestones underscore the port’s rising operational efficiency and growing capabilities in handling large cargo volumes with speed and precision.

“Another record at DPA Kandla! DPA, Kandla has achieved a record coal discharge of 81,024 tons in just 24 hours at Cargo Berth No. 7 with M.V. MARATHOS. A benchmark of unmatched speed, precision & teamwork,” the port announced on X, calling the accomplishment a testament to its maritime leadership.

The port credited the feat to strong coordination among multiple execution partners. The operation involved Shree Ashapura Stevedores (Ashapura Shipping Group) as the stevedores, Seascape Shipping Agency India Pvt. Ltd. as the vessel agent, Shri Balaji Infraport (Ashapura Shipping Group) as the customs house agent, and Balaji Malts Private Limited as the importer. Their seamless collaboration enabled quick and efficient completion of cargo discharge.

Officials also highlighted that the earlier record of handling 40 ships in 24 hours was driven by meticulous planning, rapid turnaround efforts, and tight coordination among marine, traffic and operational teams — ensuring safety without congestion or delays.

Congratulating the teams, Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of DPA, expressed appreciation to stakeholders including port users, trade unions, employees, and shramiks whose dedicated support enabled the achievement. He also praised the exemplary efforts of the Traffic Manager, Deputy Conservator, operational teams, and DPA pilots for their round-the-clock commitment.

With these consecutive breakthroughs, DPA Kandla continues to reinforce its position as one of India’s most efficient and strategically vital maritime gateways.
